Mid Back Task Chair

A Buyer's Guide to Mid Back Task Chairs

Most offices and work spaces today are equipped with mid back task chairs. In general, this type of chair features a mid-height back, a pneumatic height adjuster, and wheels. Mid back task chairs range in price from approximately $60 to upwards of $950, with higher end models boasting some luxurious features. The following is a buyer's guide to mid back task chairs and some of the features they offer.

Basic ($60 to $100): Basic mid back task chairs will usually be upholstered in fabric, although a few lower priced models do offer leather upholstery. Most basic task chairs feature a cushioned back that offers lumbar support. Basic mid back task chairs are available with or without arm rests, and many models offer adjustable arm rests. A basic task chair may not be as durable as a mid-range or higher end chair, as many parts--including the base, wheels, and casters--may be made of plastic. Some models may be ergonomically designed, but you'll need to check the manufacturer's specifications to make sure.

Mid-Range ($100 to $300): In general, mid back task chairs in this category will probably last substantially longer than lesser priced models. Upholstery choices increase as well: Often these chairs will be upholstered in chenille, micro-suede, high-quality leather, or other commercial-grade fabrics. These chairs will probably look less utilitarian and more stylish than most basic models. The base and wheels may be made of aluminum or steel. Some models even feature hardwood arms and bases as well as double-wheeled casters. Most if not all mid-range task chairs will be ergonomically designed.

High-End ($300 and up): These models are the cr?me de la cr?me of mid back task chairs. Upholstery options will include those found in the mid-range category but may also include stain-resistant fabrics. These chairs offer thicker back and seat cushions and usually can accommodate a user weight of up to 350 pounds. In addition, both height and width may be adjustable, and many models include a synchronized knee-tilt mechanism and tilt lock. These chairs are almost always ergonomically designed and offer excellent lumbar support.

Often mid back task chairs will require customer assembly. Always follow the manufacturer's directions closely, not only to avoid injury but also to prolong the life and use of your chair.
