The Modern Fabric Task Chair

A fabric task chair, also commonly referred to as an office chair, can be used for a variety of different things. Perhaps its most obvious use is to sit on while working at a desk, but it can also be a very handy item to have around the house and the workplace. They are not restricted to only being used in offices, but are also commonly used in schools, laboratories, hospitals and at many other working locations. Most homes have at least one or two, and they are often sold together with a desk, as a set.

Some of the more functional parts of this chair, which make it both extremely versatile and is perhaps the reason why many people find it very useful, are the wheels. Caster wheels, attached to the bottom framework of the chair, enable it to be swiveled around a full 360 degrees, and to be wheeled across the floor in any direction. The wheels also allow for fast directional changes. This is what originally suited this type of chair to being used in office situations, where there are often a lot of small movements made back and forth between desks or between a desk and a counter. The office chair allows the user to move in this way without having to constantly stand up and sit down. They can simply scoot their chair back and forth at will between desk and counter, desk and filing cabinet or between desks.

These days most chairs are also specially fitted to allow for other adjustments, such as being able to adjust the angle of the seat, raise the seat up and down, adjust the backrest height, and allow it to recline. An important consideration with today's fabric task chair, especially if it is going to be used for long periods of time throughout the day or evening, is that it must be ergonomically designed. A properly designed chair will leave you feeling comfortable and refreshed, whereas an improperly designed chair is guaranteed to cause aches and pains, as well as causing a general lack of concentration.

Fabric task chairs are available in many different designs. Some are referred to as a mini back chair, while others have a longer back. The seat of the chair, and the backrest, are usually made from plywood that is covered with padding and then a fabric covering. The bottom framework of the chair can be made from either metal or hard plastic. The frame connecting the seat with the bottom frame is usually made from sturdy metal, and is designed so that the seat can slide up and down easily, adjusting the distance of the seat from the floor.
